CVS’ing 101: BEFORE YOUR 1st PURCHASE

Thank you for coming back to my series on how to shop and maximize your savings at the drugstore CVS. I have learned so much about this store by visiting other sites, that I wanted to incorporate what I know into an easy tutorial for others. Through this series, I hope to help others save more of their money by not spending as much on everyday items like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, cosmetics and deodorant.

Now that you have learned my Coupon Lingo, let’s move on to what you need to do before you make your first purchase at CVS.

  1. First thing first, sign up and receive yoru CVS customer card. This card is what allows you to earn and redeem your ECB’s once you have earned them. Without this card, you will not receive any ECB’s for any of your purchases. Once you complete the registration form at your store, you will get a credit card sized customer card to keep in in your wallet and two smaller cards to put on your keychain.
  2. Once you have received your card, make sure that you register it at CVS.com and subscribe to their email list. This is very important because every once in awhile CVS will issue coupons to you through your email.
  3. Once your card has been registered, take 5-10 minutes to look over the current weekly sales ad for that week. Make a note of the products that will be free, or almost free after you have earned your ECB’s. Also make a note on the amount of times you can purchase that product before you can no longer earn ECB’s. (This amount will be located in small letters and will say LIMIT __.)
  4. Now that you have a list of the products you want to purchase, start looking through your coupons and see if you have any that matches the ECB products you are going to buy. Also, come here weekly and check out my post for the best CVS deals this week. If there is an Internet Printable Coupon (IPC) that will match an ECB product, I will provide a link to it. (By matching a coupon with an ECB product you are maximizing your savings.)
Once you have your list of ECB products and your stack of coupons together, it is time to head out to your local CVS. The next part of this series will tell you how to collect your items and what to do at the register.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments. I will answer them as quickly as possible.

Please keep checking back throughout the week for the rest of my posts in this series.

  1. Thank you so much. I live in a small town and have to travel 40 miles for a CVS and other stores like this, but I think the savings over-rides the extra gas that I might use. Thanks for helping me maximize my money. I have 3 boys also! Good luck with the baby.

  2. I can’t wait for the what to do next part of this series! I totally don’t play the CVS game, but would like to start playing it. Thank you for taking the time to write it all out!
I will be able to pass this along to all my nanny friends and so forth on my blog, http://www.nannyadventures.com hopefully!

  3. I also can’t wait for the next part of the series! I’ve been saving a lot since I found your blogspot a few weeks ago but I’m still learning. Thank you for your information! Take care!
