CVS’ing 101: GETTING A RAIN CHECK
Now that you have made your first purchase, you might have a few things on your list that wasn’t in stock. Each stores rain check policy is a little different, but this is a BASIC overview of what your store MIGHT do. (I have talked to the three stores in my area and CVS customer service. Although they say every store is different, this should be approximately what your local store’s rain check policy is.)
RAIN CHECK POLICY
Your store might offer you one, (or both), of these options:
- If an item is not in stock, on the last day of the sale (Saturday or Thursday in test areas) your store will issue you a rain check for the amount of the item minus the ECBs. So, say for instance baby lotion is on sale for $3.99 and you earn $2 in ECBs per lotion, they will issue you a rain check for the lotion to be priced at $1.99.
OR - Your store will issue you a rain check and will note on there to issue you your ECBs on a gift card. So let’s take the baby lotion scenario again. If you get a rain check for three bottles of lotion, you will pay $11.97 out of pocket, but you will be issued a gift card for $6.
The CVS store that I frequent the most offers both options to their customers. The other two stores only offer option #1, and CVS customer care says that option #1 is the most common. I prefer option #1 as well.
ALWAYS check with your local CVS to see what their policy is on issuing rainchecks on ECB products.
And that my dears is the end of my CVS 101 series. But wait! I just couldn’t leave you hanging. Every Saturday I will post beginner scenarios for the new CVS weekly sales ads. I will show you how to take $10 and receive the most ECBs back in return. Keep checking for this weekly feature, CVS Scenarios for Beginners, every week under the CVS 101 series section on the right.
Thank you for reading, and as always, please leave any questions in the comments, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I read so much about this CVS and saving money on a lot of different blogs. I wish that store was in my area!
