SHOULD I ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH?

Announcements

For those of you who visit Penny Pinching Diva on a regular basis, you know that I put my whole heart into this website. I blog on my website on a daily basis, sometimes more then once. I put my all into this website. Why? Because I love sharing the deals that I come across with other people. I know that my family isn’t the only family out there who is trying to “stretch their money as far as it can possibly go.” And when I say stretch I mean s-t-r-e-t-c-h.

Even though Penny Pinching Diva is here to help others, I have been struggling back and forth with myself on whether or not I should add a personal aspect to my website. I know I love going to websites where the blogger shares information about themselves and their families. It gives their website a more personal touch. So instead of just making a decision on my own, I have decided to ask my readers.

Please take the poll below and tell me what you would like to see here.

  1. hehe You’re such an interesting person :) I think by being more personal you would add some much-desired clever wit to your site which would encourage people to come back day to day! (Not that they don’t already but moreso than they already do I guess is what I’m saying!) You always make me laugh :) LOL

  2. It’s your website, and I say do whatever you’re comfortable with! I do enjoy reading about people’s lives instead of all business all the time, but I understand when people want to keep their lives private as well. In fact, I’m still a little bit squeamish about sharing too much personal info online (which is ironic, since my husband and I met on the internet!).

Your blog comes across as highly professional (in my opinion), and I think highly personal posts that have little to do with your regular subject matter might seem a little out of place if they were mixed in with everything else. Maybe a link to a separate “corner” of your website would do the trick. I’m trying to think of ways to be a little bit more personal on my blog as well.

    Just my 2 cents!

  3. So far it looks overwhelmingly towards yes, but I just ask one question why a podcast? Are you only going to do a podcast or will you alternate between that and a written post too? I would like to see a written post from time to time as well, including family pictures. I love that! Your own couponing experiences would be great too! Show us what you do personally! I like to see the “woman” behind the blog! You are fabulous and I know it!

  4. Dear Kat,

Thank you so much for your comment. You know I love it when you put in your two cents. LOL I’m glad I make someone laugh besides myself. Thank you for voting in my poll.

    Take care,
    Shynea

  5. Dear Jennifer,

I have always been a “put it all out there” kind of person. I don’t mind sharing things about me, or my family, within reason. The only personal side to myself I have shared has been my pictures on Wordless Wednesday. Even though for some that is enough, I have always wanted to share a little bit more.

I am glad that you think my blog comes across as professional, because that is something that I have been aiming for since the beginning. (If you would have saw the first version of this website, you would be amazed at how far I have come.) I have worked so hard on my traffic and my Google PR that I can’t even fathom starting from scratch with another website.

Thank you so much for your two cents. :)

    Take care,
    Shynea

  6. Dear Alyssa,

I should have probably worded the poll more carefully, but I was just keeping it simple and to the point. It wouldn’t be just a podcast. It would be interwoven with written posts and pictures as well. I am guessing podcast was the wrong term to use as well, because I am thinking about doing it on Blog Talk Radio so I can interact with my readers and listeners in the chat room. I think it is so important for me to interact with my readers more. I LOVE getting to know them better.

Thank you so much for your compliment. I really appreciate it.

    Take care,
    Shynea

  7. When I first visited your blog, you had more personal information on it. While you have added some great things, I really liked the more personal side better. Maybe somewhere in between?

  8. I chose the middle, yes but teach me something. I really liked in your MomTV thing about blogging about making your advertising applicable & relevant to your readers. I think if you choose some sort of podcast you should keep it along the same lines. It would bring the personal in without seeming too unprofessional. I don't know that I'd visit every day to see 15 mins (I don't have a lot of free time) but maybe once or twice a week would be good.

  9. Dear Dr. Mom,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this post. I think that my blog has transformed so much over the past nine months. I want to get back into making more personal posts about myself, as well as my family. I think I will start adding a few personal posts on here throughout the week. I am going to try to implement them in a way that they don’t take away fom the content that I have been posting on here for so long.

    Take care,
    Shynea

  10. Dear Heather,

First of all, I am glad that you liked my MomTV show where I talked about advertising and your blog. Thank you so much for watching. I want to maintain the professional side of my website. I always want Penny Pinching Diva to be seen as professional. If it was seen as anything but, I would seriously be disappointed and heartbroken.

I am definitely taking your suggestion into consideration on making it a once or twice a week thing and incorporating other things into it besides just making it personal.

    Take care,
    Shynea

  11. I think it is a great idea to add a personal touch. I like to visit sites where I learn a little about the person who does all the hard work :)

  12. I think we all want to know a little about the people we read on a regular basis.
