WAL-MART & TARGET’S COUPON POLICY
I was just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding about the Wal-Mart and Target coupon policy. I have read on several comments that Wal-Mart is denying customers internet printable coupons. That goes against their corporate policy. Wal-Mart’s coupon policy is:
Dear Penny Pinching Diva readers:
Wal-Mart Coupon Policy
Wal-Mart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):
- Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
- Free merchandise (or manufacturer’s Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
- Store coupons
- Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
- Internet coupons
- Soft drink container caps
The following are guidelines and limits:
- Wal-Mart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
- Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Wal-Mart will not accept expired coupons.
- Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon.” There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scannable bar code.
- Only one coupon per item is permitted.
- Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.
You can go here and print out Wal-Mart’s coupon policy for yourself. Make sure you carry this coupon policy with your coupons. That way if you experience anymore problems, you can show them their coupon policy and then ask them to contact corporate if they have any other problems.
As for Target’s coupon policy, I called my local store and this is what the Human Resource manager told me:
Target does take internet printable coupons. You are allowed to combine one Target store coupon AND one manufacturer coupon PER PRODUCT. If a store refuses to do so, ask them to bring you a copy of their cashier training manual. It clearly states Target’s coupon policy in it.
I hope this helps all of you who were having problems with these two stores on their coupon policy.

great info…thanks! FYI: on Monday I did my groc. shopping at W-Mart. By using competitors’ ads (savings of $49.97) along w/ a multitude of coupons (savings of $48.25) I saved a total of $98.22. My original bill was $246.76 & I ended up paying $146.54 – yeeeehawww!
I have a comment about Target’s coupon policy. I have gone to the store with multiple coupons, an example, I have a coupon for 50 cents off Dawn Dish Detergent and a 25 cent off coupon, they won’t let me double the coupon. One manager told me about doubling coupons, the next time I went to the store the cashier that I went too didn’t know about doubling coupons so she asked another manager, the manager told her I could do it as long as it wasn’t more than the priced item. This time when I went to the store this same cashier went to another manager, this manager told me that I had to use the store coupon and I could use a manufacturer coupon but I couldn’t double the 50 cent and 25 cent coupon for the Dawn Detergent. 2 managers were in agreement and the 1 said something different, so everytime I go to this cashier she has a problem with doubling the coupons. Can you give me any suggestions as how to handle this problem.
Dear Cheri,
It sounds like what you are trying to do is use two “manufacturer” coupons on one item at Target. That is not considered doubling coupons to them so they will not let that go through. When doubling coupons at Target, you have to use one “store coupon” and one “manufacturer coupon.” The store coupon being one that Target releases.
Take care,
Shynea
