NO BLOGALICIOUS FOR ME; MY SPONSORS DITCHED ME AT THE LAST MINUTE

mediaCorrespondentI am highly disappointed to say that I won’t be attending the Blogalicious Weekend Conference this weekend. At the very last minute two sponsors who had offered monetary donations decided to pull their sponsorship from me at the last minute. They are still interested in sponsoring me to “a” conference just not “this” conference.

The basic consensus of their reasoning? In a nutshell, they don’t think that with Blogalicious being new that it will produce the turn out that they want for their sponsorship dollars.

That’s all well and good. I can’t reach inside their pockets and produce a monetary donation. (Plus, that would be thievery and I have never stolen anything in my life. Ok, an ink pen but it made my handwriting look so pretty.) But two days before the conference? Common courtesy should have taken affect and allowed you to give me at least a few weeks notice. With less than 72 hours until the conference I have no other choice but to resign.

So much for professionalism. Now I have to contact the sponsors who didn’t give me the run-a-round and let them know what happened. Items will have to be returned costing me money out of pocket, and I am left looking unprofessional in the process when I am anything but. Not only was I attending, I was also the media correspondent as well as speaking on the panel “Upgrade You: Taking Your Blog to the Next Level.”

I am beyond upset and disappointed but at this moment I can’t do anything. This would have been a great opportunity for me to learn and network with some women bloggers I have admired for a long time. Now I will have to resort to stalking the blog posts next week written by the talented bloggers who attended the conference.

This would have also made an awesome honeymoon trip. The W Hotel is gorgeous.

  1. Gosh Shynea I’m sorry, that’s awful. I wish I knew who these sponsors were so I could keep their unprofessional companies off of my blog.

  2. I am so sorry Shynea! That is sooo wrong and it makes them look bad. Don’t worry about it…Something better is coming along and those sponsors will be running to sponsor you!

  3. OMG, that is terrible! I’m so sorry to hear this…hugs! You have great things in store for you…don’t fret.

  4. Wow,

That is just…tacky. This is my first year attending blog conferences and seeking sponsorship. I’m a technology consultant turned blogger and didn’t even know people were getting sponsorships until I was at my third blogging conference (BlogHer 09′).

I didn’t seek sponsorship for Blogalicious as I wasn’t sure who would be there and what the topics would be. My perception is it will be focused on beauty with a dash of mommy blogging.

I am really disappointed to hear that your sponsors pulled out. That completely leaves you hanging.

Lesson learned is to collect sponsorship payments sooner and get a signed agreement for the sponsorship.

I know I had one company say they were interested to then say they “weren’t sure” that having a presence at a blogging event would create more exposure vs press releases. I had to leave it at that.

Good luck on contacting your back-up sponsors!

  5. I’m sorry Shynea. This sucks! Better things are coming. Try not to worry until then.

  6. That is such a bummer!!! These companies could have been more timely in delivering that decision to you. Never mind, there will be many more opportunities for you because your intentions are good.

  7. I would be upset too! Sorry this happened.

  8. That’s the bad part about sponsorship. Maybe you can do a post on what you wanted to share as part of the panel. You also can do a post on working with sponsors. Sometimes good things come out of bad things.

  9. Wow, Shynea I am sorryt to hear that. You were one of the bloggers that I was looking forward to hearing on the panel. Well, I definately hope something better is around the corner for you. I think those sponsers made a BIG mistake.

  10. I am sooooooo sorry. Well just keep going (after you indulge in your favorite guilty indulgence). They will be back and at end of the line of companies wanting to sponsor you.

    Hugsssss Take care

  11. That’s terrible! I’m sorry to hear that!

  12. I am so sorry this happened to you. I don’t think you’ll look unprofessional because this is out of your control. I’ll miss you on the red carpet, but you’ll be so blissed out about being married you won’t even be thinking about us in Atlanta. :) Enjoy your weekend!

  13. Oh I am so sorry. I was really looking forward to meeting you. :(

  14. I am so sorry – that is just horrible! And to wait until the last minute? That is just so wrong. Not to mention how much I know you were looking forward to it. But to also have to let down the “good” sponsors, I’m sure is heartbreaking.

It’s their loss, but I am so sorry this happened to you. I just don’t get why it is so hard for people/companies to show common courtesy.

  15. That’s sucky. :( And you were gonna look SMOKIN hott in those dresses :(

I’ll keep you company this weekend, stalking blogs and living vicariously through other people’s tweets. You won’t be alone :)

  16. I’m not sure if my last post came through, but I am sorry that this has happened to you. That was very cruel and unprofessional of THEM!

I know you’re upset, but I did want to let you know that I love your blog and mentioned it in an article I wrote for Clutch magazine.

  17. OMG… That sucks, Hope you feel better.

  18. That really sucks! Sorry you weren’t able to attend! :(

  19. You know..things happen. We live and we learn. Hopefully you didn’t take it too hard. There’s always next year. And honestly it doesn’t make you look unprofessional at all. We know you are an amazing blogger and are here to support you.

See you in Miami!! Maybe even before at Blogher.

  20. I hope they feel like complete a$$es because of how SUCCESSFUL the conference turned out to be (I wasn’t there but heard the awesome buzz).
