I am excited about the new Top 5 weekly article that I have been writing for Penny Pinching Diva. Since I have introduced it, it has been the top read article every week. A lot of readers have expressed their interest in being introduced to new items via this article. To tell you the truth, the Top 5 feature comes from random things that I have come across during the week.
I have decided to move this new article from Sunday to Monday. I am trying to devote my entire weekend to my family but I still want to provide you, my readers, with quality content so I am coming up with a theme for each weekday. That way you can peruse the website on the weekend and catch up on any articles/features that you may have missed during the week. Stay tuned for a separate post on what those weekday themes are.
So, without further ado, I bring to you this weeks Top 5.
01. Chris Rock’s “Good Hair.”
You could only imagine my amazement when my husband told me about this movie/documentary before I had even seen the previews for it. I am honestly really excited to go see Chris Rock’s Good Hair and am shocked as to why the concept of this movie/documentary hasn’t been produced before. Being African American I can truly relate to all of the time, money and effort that goes into taking care of our hair. I often get a look of shock and disbelief when I explain to people how much time I put into making my hair look nice. Unfortunately I just can’t wash and go. (I mean I could, but at the end of the day my hair will not be as forgiving.)
I have been asked the same questions, in several different forms, over and over again: “Why do you put that on your hair again?” to “You spend how much time doing what?!” and “You are using olive oil to do something besides cook?” (FYI, olive oil is the best all natural hot oil treatment for your hair. Not to mention one of the key ingredients in any at home made body/foot scrub.) I can see this movie/documentary being not only insightful but fun as well because we have the ever hilarious Chris Rock in it.
02. The reality show House Husbands of Hollywood.
Ok, it’s no secret. I am a reality tv junkie and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, especially when there is a reality show buffet laid out before me with new shows being added every season. (I am currently looking forward to R&B singer Monica’s reality show as well as R&B singer Chili dating show.) I have often said that my family is hilarious/dysFUNctional enough to have our own reality show. (TLC, call me.) To say obsessed would be going slightly overboard. My interest is just curiously piqued to get an inside look at other people’s lives.
I came across the reality show House Husbands of Hollywood completely by accident. I was going to just continue flipping through it until I saw that Vanessa from The Cosby Show (Tempstt Bledsoe) and Ron from A Different World (Darryl Bell) were together. What?! Are you serious? Once again, my interest was piqued.
The concept behind this reality show is simple, “the women are the breadwinners and the husbands are the caretakers.” What makes this so interesting to me is the fact that there are plenty of normal couples living this way as well. With the economy the way it is, and unemployment continuously rising, a lot of couples are restructuring their living/working arrangements. We are getting a front row seat, as well as a sneak peek, on how some really successful women are taking over the dominant roles in their relationships. Loves it.
03. Blogger extraordinaire Christie Crowder.
I have to say that this was one of the first bloggers that I started following when I decided to start publically blogging back in August 2008. She was also the first Blog Talk Radio host that invited me on their radio show as a guest. (And then brought my crazy behind back for a second appearance.) I will never forget the email that I received from her asking me to come on The Chatterbox Show and share my savings tips with her listeners. (Nervousness doesn’t even describe how I felt.) I had been listening to her radio show for weeks, and back then it was only once a week. Now I can get my weekly Chatterbox fix three times a week. Although I miss listening to her live and interacting with the other listeners in the chatroom, I still download her shows every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
This week Christie is celebrating her blogiversary and birthday by having a week filled with fun and surprise guests. She has been a mover and shaker in the bloggy world, graduating from hosting a radio show and chronicling her life on her blog, to forming The Blogrollers and her own media group Blogrollers Media. She has pioneered some unique experiences for herself and has been the initial creator for taking the “business of blogging on the road.” I imagine other people will try to recreate what her and Wifey (Lorraine of Ask Wifey) have created, but it will not be as original and as unique as The Blogrollers themselves. I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Mrs. Christie Crowder will come up with next. Hop on over to The Blogrollers or My Life, A Work in Progress to get to know this awesome blogger just a little bit better.
04. The clothing line She by Sheree.
Here is another reality tv realted Top 5, but this time it is about a clothing line that viewers of The Real Housewives of Atlanta got to watch unveil from start to finish. Sheree’s clothing line She by Sheree has some really nice pieces in it. I watch the season finale on Bravo this Thursday as well as went to Essence.com to see close up pictures of her clothing line and I am BEYOND impressed at what Sheree has managed to pull off. Although I know that her clothing line won’t be anywhere near my price range, I have to say that she has come up with some unique pieces that I would literally drool over if they were inside my closet. From dresses, to blouses, to skirts Sheree was on point with everything. (And Mr. Dwight Eubanks executed the look of the fashion show with excellence.) Although Ms. Sheree herself is a little over the top, she knew what she was doing when she put out her fashion line. Much kudos to her for not giving up after her first fashion show debacle. She bounced back beautifully.
05. You, my readers.
