MAKING INEDIBLE SPOOKY HOUSES

I am big on holidays. Any holiday to be exact. I always throw small family parties for my children for everything from Valentines Day to St. Patrick’s Day. I just love working with themes and seeing what creative activities and decorations that I can come up with.

Halloween is no exception. I am not big on trick-or-treating. I have a tendency to be a little over protective, so I avoid the door knocking tradition every year by throwing a small party at home. We trade in costumes and miles of peddling for Monster Punch, a scary movie marathon, goodie bags and this year Gingerbread Spooky Houses.

When I saw these kits at Wal-Mart I thought they were so cute. I do a traditional gingerbread house with the boys at Christmas time, so when I saw the Halloween version of these I had to snatch two up. (The original plan was for my two oldest sons to do one together, and then for me to do one the “right” way. I was shown the error of my ways once I pulled the kits out.)

The houses were really easy to put together, and after warding off two sets of “smaller” hands away from the candy, we had fun putting them together.

I know I’m late, but how did your family spend their Halloween?

  1. This is very creative Shynea! I’m not big on trick or treating either, however, for the second year I took my girls out to the beach to get treats. It was fun, however, next year I think I’ll try a creative project like yourself. Thanks for the ideas!!!
