THERE IS SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN – MY SON IS DOING WELL

I know that it has been some time since I have written a post about my two year old son Tooty. From the crazy fiasco that was his broken nose to the scare that he may have autism, the last few months have been a whirlwind of emotions for my family.

He has undergone several blood-glucose tests within the past few weeks. All of them have been above normal, but they fluctuate so much the doctors really can’t tell if it’s juvenile diabetes or something else. I have altered his diet and have tried to eliminate as much sugar from his meals as possible. We have been experimenting with new recipes and just overall trying to eat healthier for him. So far the diet changes have gone good and if anything I’m happier because he is eating healthier.

Most recently we have made the decision to enroll him in a local preschool that has physical and speech therapist on campus who will be able to help him with his developmental delays.

I was once skeptical in placing him in preschool because I didn’t think that the would be able to handle him as patiently as a family member would. I know that some days can be frustrating with him, because a lot of things that he should be doing on his own he’s not. My husband and I decided to take a tour of this preschool’s facilities just to see if we liked it.

I have to honestly say that I went in with a closed mind.

I was just really skeptical but after taking a tour I know that that preschool will be good for him. The classes are very small and they have a mixture of both children who are developing normally and children who have developmental delays. The staff was well trained, the classrooms were clean and the therapists are right there at the school.

He hasn’t started school yet, and we still do not have any definitive answers on whether or not he has juvenile diabetes, but I really do see things looking up for him.

Thank you to EVERYONE who sent me emails asking about my son. Those emails, and prayers, are MORE then you’ll ever know.

  1. This is wonderful Shynea. I will continue to pray for him and for you all. I know it must not be easy to go through all of this. If you need me, you have my number. :)

  2. Awwww … I LOVE that picture :)

I’m excited for him… I think he will love going to school and it will be wonderful for him to be there with staff that is experienced with such a variety of developmental levels!

Still praying for your lil man!! He’s so freakin precious :)

  3. shynea i def understand how you feel! my oldest daughter has gone to special needs schools because of her developmental delays. I once read a poem a couple of years ago at hospital down here in dallas. i cant remember all the poem, but i still remember this one line that stated GOD KNEW YOU WERE STRONG ENOUGH TO RAISE THIS CHILD. I look back and realize i was strong woman because I was young raising a special needs child and my two youngest at the time by myself. You ARE a strong woman, that is way GOD trusts you enough to raise ur 2 year old!

  4. I agree Shynea with the others you have precious Tooty because God trusts you with him and to prove to yourself that your strong. My grandson has an ongoing battle with sugar intolerance his teacher god bless her recognized it before we did. He would crash and burn about 1:30 pm and fall asleep in class. He is now 10 and has adjusted well. Continue to watch his diet as there is hidden sugar everywhere. The main culpret is carbs they turn to sugar when breaking down in their system.God bless you all!

  5. I am glad things are going great. Keep eating healthy and remember to pray.

  6. Keeping a positive attitude is wonderful! I wish you and the family continued endurance as you continue to get closure on your son’s health needs.

  7. Oh nothing tugs at a mama’s heartstrings more than something that is going on with her baby’s health. Prayers to you and your precious boy – they are such blessings and are fearfully and wonderfully made just how they are. Hoping you get some answers.

Preschool is wonderful for children so I’m glad he is having a good experience and you are, too! :)
