I have recently heard about the benefits of belly binding after you have given birth.Unfortunately with my first four pregnancies I was oblivious to any knowledge about binding your stomach postpartum. I do know about the benefits of breastfeeding in regards to helping you get down to your pre-pregnancy weight, but this belly binding information was new to me.

So of course, the first person I asked was my mother. (Because sometimes I do think she does know a little bit more than me. *wink*) I was really shocked to find out that she bound her belly with her first two pregnancies and she sang its praises. Her “homemade” way of using saran wrap seemed a little complicated and time consuming to me, so I decided to do a little bit of research to see if I could find a quality company that created a postpartum belly binding product.

That’s when I came across the Belly Bandit. I had seen it mentioned quite a few times in several different parenting and lifestyle magazines. I also know that quite a few celebrities endorsed the Belly Bandit, including Kourtney Kardashian who designed her own Belly Bandit for the company, so I was very excited to get in contact with this company and find out more about their product.

It is recommended that if you decide to bind your belly after delivery that you do it as soon as possible once giving birth, and that you continuously wrap your stomach every day for at least six weeks. (Although it can be worn longer.) It is also recommended that you only take it off to shower, and then put it back on immediately after you are done.

When I received my Belly Bandit in the mail in came rolled up in their cute signature box.

The Belly Bandit comes in several different styles. You can purchase the Original, the Couture, or if you’d prefer something organic the Bamboo. The one that I received was the Belly Bandit Couture in white with pink hearts.

When I first took this out, I was surprised at how flexible and soft it was. I had it in my mind that it would be “girdle” like and would be kind of stiff, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was really bendable and the material used to make it was very soft. This right here let me know that it would be very comfortable for me to wear after giving birth.

When I opened it up, I saw that it had adjustable velcro ends. This was another positive to me because I was wondering how it would adjust to my stomach as it went down and I lost weight. I used the online Belly Bandit measuring tips to make sure that it would fit my post partum belly but also give me a few more inches of give. The velcro on it was a good five to six inches in width so this was perfect.

My Belly Bandit also came with a set of full color instructions to get me started. So I’m all ready to go. This has already been packed away in my hospital bag because I plan on using it as soon as I am able to move around.

This is my pre-review of this product, just from an aesthetic point of view. I will be reviewing it again several times after I give birth to baby girl to let you know my progress with using the Belly Bandit and binding my stomach.

Did any of my mamas out there bind their bellies after giving birth?

  1. I don’t know if there were “Belly Bandits” around when I gave birth. If not, it would have been really helpful. I had a couple of people tell me about binding my stomache, so I figured with that and breastfeeding, my stomache would go flat pretty quick. Since I ended up using Ace bandages and they were uncomfortable and weird, it didn’t quite work out as planned.

  2. I’m really excited to hear about how this works for you. My daughter’s grandmother (on the other side) told me about binding…but it was already too late after I had my baby. The old school knows about so many things that we seem to miss out on? I don’t know where the info gets lost along the way, but I really wish that I would’ve known about this before I had my baby 🙂 You have to upddate us!

  3. I can confirmed that it really works, I did it with my forst two pregnancy, my grandma make sure it was done right, unfortunately I could not do it with my last as she was just too big and I endup having a C-section so I could not do it. now for the first time I have a big tommy that is not going anywhere.

I just had my 3rd – so this was not around with my other 2 – it is SUCH A difference
With my other 2 I couldn’t fit into my pre-pregnancy pants for about 6 month
I am now only 5 weeks POST and I am back in my “real” jeans!!! I SWEAR BY IT!!! I bought mine online –
