IT FEELS LIKE ONLY YESTERDAY YOU WERE BORN: A LETTER TO YOU

Dear Baby Girl,

I just blinked, maybe even dozed off for a few minutes, but it seems like time is steadily slipping away from me. It feels like only yesterday that you were inside of my stomach and I was talking to you about my life goals and the dreams I had for you. From the day that I found out that I was carrying my daughter, something inside of me blossomed and I knew from that point forward that my life would never be the same. Instead, it would only get better because you were in it. Now I look at you and I see what I want the “future me” to look like.

You have already grown so big. You’re not smiling at the mere presence of me yet. You more so give me a quizzical look when I start to sing to you. (I’m not sure if it’s because I make up my own songs or the fact that I can’t get on key to save my life.) Although you only give me the most serious looks right now, you are developing steadily in other areas. Just the other day I witnessed you flipping yourself over from your back to your stomach ans vice versa. I stood there in awe as I watched you methodically throw your chunky leg back-and-forth until you got enough momentum to finally position yourself where you wanted to be.

Born at only seven pounds twelve ounces, when we left the hospital you weighed over a pound less. Your personality was already forming. You wavered between being stubborn and refusing to eat to being lazy and not being able to stay awake long enough to eat. Now looking at your little legs I know that all of my sleepless nights of breastfeeding is paying off and you, my little chunky monkey, are getting all of the nutrition that you need.

I look into your eyes and I know a kind of happiness I have never known before.

I love you more then life itself. Happy 1 month birthday!
